Section properties from a DXF file
Upload a DXF drawing of a frame profile. The tool checks the drawing, shows what it read and calculates the area, the second moments of area and the section moduli of the closed outlines on the layer you choose (PROFILE is chosen for you when the file has it). It also gives the torsion constant, the warping constant, the shear centre and the buckling of the section by the finite strip method.
- Put the closed outlines of the cross section on one layer. If it is not named PROFILE, you choose it after the upload. Lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, splines and polylines are read.
- A profile with a thermal break: draw the metal parts on either side of the break and leave the break out. The result is the sum of the parts. No shear transfer across the break is assumed.
- Units: millimetres or inches. If the file does not say, you choose.
- The uploaded file is not stored.
